Do you need a background check to purchase a firearm?
Yes. All firearm purchases require a federal background check through the FBI's NICS system. (some states have greater requirements as well.
Can I purchase a firearm online?
Yes, but the firearm but be shipped to a licensed FFL (federal firearms licensee) dealer near you. You will complete the background check and paperwork prior to taking possession of the firearm.
What is the minimum age to buy a gun?
Federal law requires buyers to be at least 18 for rifles and shotguns, and 21 for handguns. Some states have stricter rules.
Are there waiting periods?
Some states have mandatory waiting periods between purchase and pickup. Federal law does not require one unless the background check is delayed.
Can you ship a Firearm directly to my residence?
NO. All Firearms must be sent to a FFL where a background check and paperwork is completed.
Can I transfer a firearm to another person?
In most cases, yes, but transfers must go through an FFL dealer unless your state allows private transfers under certain conditions.
